Simpson Financial Group  Preparing for life’s uncertainties

patient with doctorBeing in good health should be the norm, not something that seems unattainable. It's good to have better health markers to get preferred rates on health insurance. Even better, good health markers will also improve your quality of life.

Here are three tips that will help to improve your health so that your next check-up or health insurance physical is great.

Cut out sugar.

People consume, on average, upwards of 150 pounds of sugar each year. Not to mention cavities and weight gain, sugar causes excess inflammation and raises your risk of diseases. You can still get your sweet fix from fruits. You can also make some healthy treats by replacing sugar with xylitol or stevia. Those are both natural sweeteners that do not harm the body like sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Eat more colorful vegetables.

Colorful, low-starch vegetables are a foundation of healthy diets. Aim to eat at least 10 servings a day. Carbohydrates, found in food like potatoes and corn, are okay in certain amounts. But, leafy greens, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots are all low in calories. They also contain a plethora of vitamins and minerals. Start your day with a green smoothie made from spinach, cucumber and an apple. Have a big salsa for lunch and eat a hearty veggie-based soup for dinner.

Drink more water and unsweetened tea.

With a coffee shop on every corner, it's hard to avoid rich coffee beverages, smoothies and savory teas. However, for the best health, drop beverages except for water. You can drink milk for calcium, but even that can be had from vegetables. Dairy products can also exacerbate some medical problems.

Work with your doctor to implement a healthy diet. Use tips he or she suggests so that you can improve the most important health markers. This will improve you health and possibly get favorable rates on your health insurance.
